Excuse me, hi OMG I absolutely love your top!

Thanks, I got it on Shein!

Shein?

Yes, Shein. It was only $6 dollars.

If you haven’t shopped Shein yet, you’ve heard of it. If it still sounds unfamiliar to you, ask your friends I’m sure they are probably wearing it. Shein has continuously been booming in sales by offering a ton of fashion related products, accessories, home decor, pet products, tools and more. Call it your one stop shop where consumers find themselves quick to fall back on when they are urgently in need of something both modish and affordable. All this sounds great. It did to me and there I was like many others finding myself on a shopping splurge with an unimaginable total cost (the good kind).

So why is everyone so caught up on shopping Shein? Let’s begin with the most obvious answer and simply accept that a low price tag is quite effective in luring the consumer to make a purchase even if it’s one time occurrence. After all, Shein’s commitment in the fashion industry is to provide everyone accessibility to beauty and the latest fashion trends which makes it one of today’s most popular fast fashion brands available world wide. By operating through an online platform shopping Shein is easier than ever. Especially now that consumers have grown more comfortable with online shopping since undergoing the pandemic. As a result of this it seems a lot of consumers are becoming less mindful of their shopping decisions and are quick to drop the dime on anything that seems easily accessible, cheap and up to date.

While being able to shop for something both affordable and cute can be rewarding, it is essential that individuals are thoroughly thinking about their decisions when making rapid purchases. Those purchases can later be overlooked and consequently fall into negligent behaviors when handling merchandise they purchased. Whether that be quickly getting rid of garments and flooding second hand stores with fast fashion products that are no longer considered “fashionable’’ or being less sensitive to product accessibility by overlooking its lifespan for its price tag. Here is an example of what I mean by insensitivity of a cheap price tag and product.

Conversation with a friend

Is that a corduroy jacket?

Yes it is.

I love it ! Where did you find it?

SHEIN ! It was so cheap.

Later that night ….

Hey you left your jacket hanging on that chair over there.

3 drinks in… Oh who cares it was only like $16

Cheap sh*t leads to a cheap mindset and the cheaper a product is the faster you get rid of it. What type of consumer are you?
